"THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN" by J. Michael Straczynski: Issues 1-3 Comic Dub
Zasky for Spider-Man / Peter Parker
Peter in his late ‘20s. Pete is at his most human with JMS. He and MJ are on a married break from each other, leaving Peter depressed and lost. He doesn’t know which direction to take his life. Peter’s arc of finding purpose and happiness is the focus of Stracyzynski’s whole run. Pete narrates almost all of the comic. Narration should really feel like he’s having a conversation with the audience. A more mature version of Josh Keaton's Spidey would be great - similar to his performance in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
(joking, distracting himself from what’s bothering him) “I just want to... go. And I’m not going to stop until I get tired. Unfortunately, it takes a real long time for me to get tired. By that time, I could be in New Jersey. And I don’t even know anybody in New Jersey…”
(shaken up, contemplative) “I remember what it was to get beaten up all the time. I remember the frustration. The fear. The rage. The mindless rage that makes you feel you’d do anything to get back at the ones who bring you pain for no reason other than they think it’s fun. That could have been me."
(to Doctor Strange) “This gonna take long? ‘Cause I could head down to Times Square.. Grab a pizza.. discover Radium.. Work out the whole unified field theory..”
I seriously love your interpretation of that first line - your intensity on the second line was right on the money too. If you wouldn't mind, would you be able to try again with the foundation you have, but a little more worn down and sad? That's how Peter is for a lot of these first three issues, so I'd love to hear how you interpret that feeling. No worries if not, brilliant audition already! Thank you so much for the time you've already put into this project.
Thank you very much and yes I can do another take on that line but would you prefer me to send you the line Separately? or just redo the line and send it here?
