Record all audition lines while referring to the notes below for each line and do one take of each line.
For the first audition line, you want the courier to know quickly you are not to be trifled with even if you have an air of sophistication in the way you carry yourself. Even when people aren't speaking, you know what they are thinking.
For the second audition line, you are quite annoyed at this interruption of your work of interrogation but quickly compose yourself and go back to your usual calm, commanding, and calculating self. Emotions give away your inner thoughts and weaknesses, and that you can't have.
I'm not like the typical wasteland reject, Courier. I learned to become a doctor when I was very young. Do you know why? It wasn't because I desired to heal the wastes of its afflictions, but because I wanted to cleanse them. Being a doctor means you know exactly where to apply pressure to induce the utmost pain. Pain the average human mind cannot comprehend.
Can’t this wait? I’m a little busy right now.
Hi my name is Trayton. I'm a fresh or rather new VO and i was wondering how on earth you got to sound like that? Its amazing, almost as if it came straight out of the game. What software do you use or some if any vocal tips that could help me. Thank you for your time.
Hey there Trayton, I am really glad you like the voice! I use Audacity, all I do is a little chopping (mainly cutting out mouth sounds/clicks) noise reduction and then amplify it to bring up the volume :) As far as being able to do that kind of voice, I have a naturally deep, raspy voice so it isn't too hard to get that effect. Best vocal tips I can think of: Water is your best friend! (cold water to help do deeper voices, warm for everything else), make sure you are familiar with your editing software, and above all else.... have fun! Hope this helped :)
One real quick last thing: Sound proofing/acoustic treatment will help out a lot. Whether you use your closet or have a fully treated booth at home, you can even drape a blanket over you and the mic while you read lines, does the same job, no reverb, no echo, no problem XD
Thanks for the pointer. I just picked up Audacity so im still getting use to it but the water thing for a deeper voice is new to me. If just been hitting coffee until the pots empty. Once again thank you for the tips ill start implementing them into my future work.
He sounds just a tad bit too aggressive. Would advocate a more relaxed tone, giving off the impression that he's casually and subtly showing his strength.
I get that, I can do a second audition with the same voice but not so intense demeanour if you would like that.
