Kulkhan has always had a regal air about him. The attitude he has as the king, he had when he was just another homeless child from Adestria’s poorest regions. Whenever he was tormented or made fun of he’d respond with long winding speeches about how the world would one day be his. He believed more strongly than anyone that he would be King eventually and he prepared for that day. Whenever a king is on their last legs, they initiate the process of finding a new king. It’s a two-step process. Step 1. The search. During this step, they comb the region from top to bottom in search of young Adestrians who can solve a series of ancient riddles. Whoever chooses the right answer to all three of the questions is considered a candidate for the throne. But because a ruler must be as strong as they are intelligent, and because many people are able to solve the riddle, they have step 2.

Trail by combat tourney style. Ring out or knock out gets you to the next round. Kulkhan had an unusual plan. He refused to fight. Instead of choosing to win his battles outside of the right by befriending those he was meant to defeat, promising them seats on the royal court if he became king. 3 of his Hunters, Citlamina, Poctil, and Cuetlachtli he met this way. Citlali was too young.

He managed to win all of his opponents over but 1. Who was intent on becoming king and ruling alone. It looked certain that Kulkhan was outmatched. Especially because he had not had a single match. But he handily defeated his opponent. Securing his spot as king as soon as the current king passed or stepped down. 

Kulkhan is a charismatic guy and has a way of connecting with people from all backgrounds. But he can also be spiteful and holds grudges. He used his power as king to get back at anyone who doubted him. He got nice and comfortable in his role as king, while also keeping his promises to all the ones who put their trust in him. One person who he definitely rubs the wrong way is Yohualli.
