The Spongebob Squarepants Movie Rehydrated Dub
The Spongebob Squarepants Movie Rehydrated was an absolutely ambitious project that brought together a community of amazingly talented people, from animators to sound designers, to make a tribute to the late creator of the sponge we all know and love, Stephen Hillenburg.
The year 2020 marked the 16th anniversary of the first Spongebob Squarepants movie, in honor of Mr. Hillenburg, a collaboration began to reanimate the entirety of the movie. Each animator brought their own style to the table, which resulted in the animation styles varying with each scene change, showing off everyone's unique talent! The animation was not only the factor, as there was an amazing sound design crew that edited the scenes after animation to emulate and keep the feel of the original source material. But you thought it stopped there? Nope, the project's directors went even further, to bring together an amazing voice cast to bring this all together.
After 2 years in the making, the project has had major problems with YouTube's copyright and COPPA bots within only a week of it being uploaded. The video was first copyright blocked by Paramount/Viacom within two hours of its upload, causing many supporters of the project to express their dismay against Paramount/Viacom for their infamous copyright system despite the video being within fair use. The hashtag, "#Justiceforspongebob", trended worldwide on Twitter following the blocking. Later that same day, Paramount had lifted the copyright claim from YouTube. On May 5, 2022, the video was flagged as a "Made for Kids" video by the YouTube Bots, with YouTube deeming it as a "Kids" video solely for it being about SpongeBob. The video was blocked by Paramount/Viacom again a couple of hours afterward, however it was brought back up and running a couple days afterwards for all to see still to this day.
