Written by Edith Carrington, a well-known English animal rights activist, Poor Blossom is an autobiographical children’s story of a horse’s life from birth until death. He learns from his mother at a young age to be obedient to man and serve him patiently, a lesson he adheres to despite much provocation. Like Black Beauty, Blossom’s tale is one of many owners and much ill-treatment, but without the happy ending that Beauty eventually finds. - Summary by Winnifred Assmann
