NO[N]SENSE (2016)
Following the successful reception of then ensemble Fort Knight's final graduate piece (Make Sense...) for 2015, they would then be tasked with representing Deakin University at the Melbourne Fringe Festival of 2016. The original devised piece of approximately 23 minutes needed to be extended almost twice its duration at the behest of the venue. Additionally the stage play would evolve, championed forward by 3 after the departure of 1. An undertaking such as this was as gruelling as it was lengthy. Enduring the worst in silence behind the scenes would yield a final product and season that exceeded expectations of all those involved.
Reality is coined up to whatever one would make of the world around them, however perception and interpretation are so easily led astray amidst vices, regrets, perhaps even voices among others. Delusion then can be a most comfortable place, a nice place to conceal away oneself within the euphoric shroud that is ... whatever one would like, even if it is futile, even if one must pretend, even if it hurts, and even it is not real. - Make Sense ... (2015) synopsis.
Building upon the concepts established in Make Sense ... (2015) This devised performance too playfully explores the idea of a 'desired reality'. It is a contemporary take on what lies hidden in the human psyche and closely examines the ordinary moments often taken for granted when interacting with others. 'Things aren't always what they appear to be' is once again a driving ethos in the design of this stage play from the powerful symbolism, returning style of disjointed dialogue and dishevelled scenery, and omnipresence of the bodies in the space never truly leaving it. Viewers are sure to be perplexed initially, but will soon find open ended meanings after the fact or with another glance.
