Selkies, seal shapeshifters from mythic times, are known to gain their power to change forms due to a sealskin or seal coat normally gained during their birth or occasionally passed down in families. Some halfbreeds have other means of gaining the ability and honor of changing form. Kirsty Makay, a half-selkie and half-human witch, priestess in training for Mara the sea goddess and the Lady of the Waters whose name was stolen many generations ago, is one of these.Kirsty must gain her sealskin, her True Self, and take part in the long search for the Name of the Lady of the Waters, the skin of her ancestor, and discover the linked people she meets in her personal quest. Meanwhile, her boyfriend David, a werewolf from a line of ancient Knights, has his own part to play in her family's story.

This was originally intended to be a trilogy, but the intended storyline looks like it will need to unfold over four books. Related series are Dragon Shaman (ongoing, book three to be written) and The Shadow Chronicles (to be rewritten from files lost before the work on Dragon Shaman began).
