John Kennard
John Kennard
@RacingHippoBritish bloke based in London who likes to stick his face into a mic and speak/sing. Sometimes for fun, sometimes for spondulicks. Geek. Tinkerer. Neurospicy.
I'm a part-time voice-actor / narrator with past experience of backstage theatre and audio engineering. I'm also an experienced singer (both rock and choral) and drummer (rock, not choral).
I only audition for roles that I know I can do well; I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I like to really get behind the character / message - I don't see any point in submitting something that I don't believe will be at least close to exactly what you're looking for - that'd be a waste of time for both of us!
I actively encourage being directed - remotely or live; if what you hear isn't quite what you want, let me know! Past experience so far is that I'll nail it on the 2nd take.
What have I done so far?After starting out recording chapters of audiobooks for Librivox, I have become a regular voice at Strange New Worlds, Guild of Snails and Raving Lunatic Media, and have recently joined the very talented folks at Law of Names.
Here are a few of what I consider to be my best bits.
Drama:
-
Selene: The Fata Morgana - Two roles: Baron Mizra Kovach (posh British); Vincenzo the Magician (Italian accent)
-
The Arenberg Principle - Danny 'Ace' Oswald (main protagonist and narrator) -
Dominion (Part 3) - The Disciple Thomas (Yes, that disciple. No, it wasn't in the slightest bit religious! From 37:00-ish) -
The Dysfunctional 5 - "Control" (the head of a British Secret Agent organisation) -
Murder on the East Ward - Shaun (Officious, misogynistic manager) -
The Malfunctioning Icon - Professor Anders (an elderly, eccentric inventor) / shopkeeper (small-town USA)
Narration:
-
The Curse of October - a poem written by AMC (creator of The Vesta Clinic) for the Audio Drama Club's SpookyFest 2023 - Masking - An Autism Short Film
- Darson One Launch Tapes
-
The Lords Nation
Audiobooks (Non-fiction):
Audiobooks (Fiction):
- The Return of Don Quixote by G.K. Chesterton - Chapter 16, Chapter 17, Chapter 18
- The Junior Classics Volume 1: Fairy and Wonder Tales - 55: Hok Lee and the Dwarfs

@aliusnemo
John is a pleasure to work with! I had listened to a bit of his work elsewhere so I was thrilled when he auditioned for my audiobook. Besides his fantastic voice acting, he's a super nice guy and goes the extra mile. Anyone would be lucky to work with him!

An amazing asset to the cast. I should have recommended the moment they gave me their lines. Amazing performance and great speed.

@okemian
John immediately understood the brief from the moment he auditioned, even in areas where I was unsure of exactly what I wanted he still managed to hit the nail on the head. Bringing to life the shadowy boss of the crime syndicate in such a brilliant way. I honestly feel like I've benefitted hugely as an actor and director from working with him and I would be honoured to do so again in the future.

Can we take a second to really pay attention to this wonderful man?
John is PERFECT. He is EXACTLY what you're looking for. Not only has he been on time for EVERY table read..but he has truly been a blessing to have around in every way. He is kind and sweet. He's fun. He's professional. And his ability to act is everything we love having for any special role.
He does perfect takes for the Narrator role in our series Tales of Shady Grove Book One and we hope to have him in future iterations of the series as well.
